Pymetrozine

Short Description:

Mode of Action of Pymetrozine:

- Selective insecticide with contact and systemic (translaminar) activity, primarily affecting sucking pests.

- Pymetrozine works by interfering with chordotonal organs – mechanosensory neurons that detect vibration and stretch. It blocks the transmission of stimuli, causing immediate, irreversible cessation of feeding (antifeedant effect). Affected insects stop feeding within hours and eventually die from starvation (IRAC Group 9B – selective feeding blockers).

Key Properties / USPs:

1. Excellent control of sap-feeding insects including aphids, whiteflies, and planthoppers

2. Fast-acting feeding cessation – insects stop damaging crops within hours

3. No knockdown effect, but starvation leads to death within 2–3 days

4. Highly selective – safe for most beneficial insects, predatory mites, and pollinators

5. Absorbed primarily through foliage with translaminar movement (limited systemic distribution)

6. Effective across a range of temperatures; not strongly influenced by environmental conditions

7. Compatible with many other insecticides and fungicides for integrated pest management (IPM) tank mixes

8. Ideal for use in IPM programs due to low toxicity to natural enemies

9. Broad-spectrum activity against Hemipteran pests: aphids (Aphididae), whiteflies (Aleyrodidae), planthoppers (Delphacidae), and leafhoppers (Cicadellidae)

    Technical Requirements for Use:

    1. Apply the pesticide during the peak nymphal stage of rice planthoppers. Use 10-15 grams of the prepared product per acre, diluted in 30-45 kg of water, and spray evenly. The interval between two applications should be 15-20 days.

    2. This product should be used a maximum of twice per rice season, with an interval of 7 days between applications. The interval between the last application and harvest should be 7 days.

    3. Maintain a 3-5 cm water layer in the field during application, and keep the water level constant for 3-5 days after application.

    4. Do not apply the pesticide on windy days or if rain is expected within one hour.

    Precautions:

    1. Do not mix with alkaline substances. When controlling brown planthoppers, aim the spray at the middle and lower parts of the rice plants.

    2. Wear protective clothing, including a mask, gloves, and goggles, when using this product. Do not eat, smoke, or drink during application. Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after application.

    3. Use with caution near nectar-producing crops during flowering, silkworm rearing rooms, and mulberry orchards; apply away from aquaculture areas, and do not wash application equipment in rivers, ponds, or other bodies of water. This pesticide is prohibited in rice paddies where shrimp and crabs are co-cultured; paddy water after application must not be directly discharged into other water bodies.

    4. It is recommended to alternate this pesticide with other insecticides that have different mechanisms of action.

    5. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid contact with this pesticide.

    6. Used containers should be properly disposed of; they should not be reused or discarded carelessly.
