95% Dichloropropene : A Deep Clean for Your Soil

I. Focusing on Combating the “Invisible Killers of the Soil”

Among various soil-borne pests, root-knot nematodes are one of the most troublesome.

Tiny in size, they hide deep in the soil, specifically attacking crop roots, forming nodular protrusions (root knots) that block the channels for water and nutrient transport.

Affected crops always appear “malnourished,” with yellowing and wilting leaves; upon closer inspection, the roots are short, sparse, and covered in knots.

The function of 95% dichloropropene  is to perform a one-time “cleanup” of nematodes, some fungi, and weed seeds in the soil before planting through soil fumigation.

Its principle is not complicated: after the agent is applied to the soil, it volatilizes into a gas in a sealed environment, diffusing into every tiny pore of the soil and directly acting on the respiratory system of harmful organisms, thereby achieving a killing effect.

Simply put, it fumigates the “bad stuff” in the soil with gas, giving crops a clean root growth environment.

II. What Does a 95% High Concentration Mean?

In practical application, soil fumigation at the recommended dosage can achieve nearly 90% control efficacy against root-knot nematodes in ginger,

and shows similar excellent performance against root-knot nematodes in crops such as cucumbers and tomatoes.

In fumigated fields, crop root systems are significantly more developed, with more white roots, resulting in vigorous plant growth and a correspondingly extended harvest period.

III. How to Use It

1. Land Preparation: First, remove crop residues from the previous crop, deeply till, harrow, and level the soil,

maintaining a soil moisture content of 60%-70% (ideally, it should clump together when squeezed in the hand but crumble easily when dropped).

This facilitates even distribution of the pesticide.

2. Application: Dilute the pesticide with water according to the recommended ratio and spray it evenly onto the soil surface using a manual or motorized sprayer.

Immediately after application, use a rotary tiller or hoe to mix the pesticide evenly with the top 15-20 cm of soil, ensuring full contact with the target area.

3. Mulching and Sealing:

This is the most crucial step. After applying the pesticide and mixing it into the soil, immediately cover the soil with mulch (preferably at least 0.04 mm thick),

and seal the edges with soil, leaving no gaps. Fumigation typically requires 7-15 days (the duration depends on soil temperature and humidity; higher temperatures require less time).

4. Removing the mulch for ventilation: After fumigation, remove the mulch and loosen the soil again to allow residual gases to fully evaporate.

This step is called the “ventilation period,” which generally takes 7-14 days, until a noticeable pesticide odor is no longer detectable. After ventilation, normal sowing or transplanting can proceed.

Timing of application: It is best to begin the process 20-30 days before sowing to allow sufficient time for fumigation and ventilation, ensuring both effectiveness and safety.
