DDVP (Dichlorvos) for Cockroach Control
There are three methods: space spraying, liquid spraying, and fumigation.
However, extreme caution must be exercised when using it due to its high toxicity to humans and animals.
DDVP is an organophosphate insecticide with contact, stomach poison, and strong fumigation effects on cockroaches, providing rapid knockdown. Depending on the application scenario and product formulation, the following methods can be used:
1. Space Spraying (Rapidly kills flying or clustered cockroaches)
Applicable Scenarios: Quickly treat visible cockroaches or concentrate spraying in their hiding places (such as cabinets and crevices).
Application Method: Use an aerosol containing DDVP and spray directly at cockroaches or crevices they frequently appear in. Alternatively, dilute 80% DDVP emulsifiable concentrate to a concentration of 0.1% – 0.2% before spraying.
Precautions: After spraying, personnel should leave immediately, close the room for 15-30 minutes, then thoroughly ventilate and wipe away any remaining pesticide with a damp cloth to prevent contamination of food and tableware.
2. Fumigation Treatment (For Enclosed Spaces)
DDVP is highly volatile and has a significant fumigation effect, suitable for treating hard-to-clean corners or enclosed spaces.
Method 1: Heating and Evaporation
Principle: DDVP evaporates rapidly at high temperatures, using its fumigation effect to kill cockroaches in crevices.
Instructions: Soak a cloth strip with undiluted DDVP and hang it indoors (approximately 3-5 ml per room).
Method 2: Dedicated Slow-Release Hanging Strips (A Relatively Safe Home Solution)
Product: DDVP slow-release hanging strips specifically designed for home use are available on the market (DDVP content approximately 18.6%).
Usage: Remove the hanging strip from the sealed bag and hang it in the enclosed space that needs treatment (such as wardrobes, storage rooms, attics). Each strip can treat approximately 10-20 cubic meters of space, with a slow-release effect lasting up to 4 months.
Suitable for: Effectively controlling cockroaches, silverfish, carpet beetles, etc., in wardrobes and storage boxes.
Key Safety Warnings
1. Wear rubber gloves and a mask when using DDVP.
2. Keep away from food: Do not spray DDVP in food processing, storage, or eating areas.
3. Resistance issues: Due to long-term use, cockroaches in many areas (especially German cockroaches) have developed some resistance to DDVP. If ineffective, it is recommended to switch to insecticides with different mechanisms of action (such as gel baits containing pyrethroids, imidacloprid, or dinotefuran).
