Rice:
Barnyardgrass, sprangletop, redstem, junglerice, crabgrass, signalgrass, goosegrass, annual sedges, morning glory, and other broadleaf weeds.
Timing: Post-emergence, when weeds are at the 2-5 leaf stage (2-5 cm tall for optimal control).
Method: Foliar spray. Drain the field before application.
Re-flood 24-72 hours after spraying, maintaining a 3-5 cm water layer for 5-7 days to enhance efficacy.
1. Crop Safety and Phytotoxicity
Rice Selectivity: Rice becomes tolerant to Propanil after the 3-leaf stage (trifoliate stage) as it can metabolize the herbicide. Applying it before this stage can cause crop injury.
Sensitive Crops: Propanil is phytotoxic to many broad-leaved crops. Ensure spray does not drift onto non-target crops.
Crop Rotation: Due to its short soil half-life (1-3 days) and absence of residual activity, there are no restrictions for planting subsequent crops after harvesting.
2. Compatibility and Tank Mixtures
Never mix or sequentially apply Propanil with carbamate or organophosphate insecticides. Doing so can severely injure or kill the rice crop. A minimum waiting period of at least 5-7 days is required between applications of these pesticides.
Compatible Mixes: Propanil can be safely tank-mixed with some other herbicides to broaden the weed control spectrum. .
