Short Description:

Dinotefuran is an insecticide of the neonicotinoid class for control of insect pests such as aphids, whiteflies, thrips, leafhoppers, leafminers, sawflies, mole cricket, white grubs, lacebugs, billbugs, beetles, mealybugs, and cockroaches on leafy vegetables, in residential and commercial buildings, and for professional turf management.

Its mechanism of action involves disruption of the insect’s nervous system by inhibiting nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

    Applicaton:

    1. Rice (Oryza sativa)

    Target Pests: Brown Planthopper, Rice Planthopper, Stem Borer.

    Application Rate:General 150–300 g/ha (of 20% formulation) for planthoppers.

    Key Notes: PHI is 14 days. Do not apply more than once per season.

    2. Leafy & Cruciferous Vegetables (e.g., Cabbage, Broccoli, Kale, Spinach)

    Target Pests: Aphids, Flea Beetles, Whitefly, Leafminer, Cabbage Caterpillar (Pieris rapae).

    Method & Timing: Foliar spray. Apply at the first sign of pest activity or when insects reach threshold levels. Repeat as needed, but not more often than every 7 days.

    Key Notes: Do not apply within 1 day of harvest. Higher water volumes provide improved insect control. Not for use on vegetables grown for seed.

    3. Cucurbits (Cucumber, Melon, Squash, Watermelon, Pumpkin, etc.)

    Target Pests: Melon Aphid, Green Peach Aphid, Thrips, Leafhoppers, Leafminers, Whiteflies.

    Method & Timing: Foliar or soil application.

    Foliar: Apply when first pest activity is noticed. Repeat as needed, but not more often than every 7 days.

    Soil: Make only one soil application per season.

    Key Notes: Under severe pest pressure, use the higher recommended rates. Not for use on vegetables grown for seed.

    4. Pome & Stone Fruits (Apple, Pear, Peach, Plum, etc.)

    Target Pests: Aphids, Leafhoppers.

    Application Rate:Apple Aphid: Dilute 3000–4000 times.

    Method & Timing: Foliar spray. Apply just before pest populations reach an economic threshold.

    Key Notes: PHI varies by region; always check the local label for specific fruit trees.

    5. Grapes

    Target Pests: Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter, Leafhopper, Thrips, Grape Mealybug, Vine Mealybug.

    Method & Timing: Foliar or soil application.

    Foliar: Repeat as needed, but not more often than every 14 days.

    Soil: For mealybug control, apply between budbreak and pea-berry size. Make only one soil application per season.

    6. Citrus (Orange, Lemon, Tangerine)

    Target Pests: Aphids, Scale Insects, Whiteflies, Leafhoppers.

    Method & Timing: Foliar spray. Apply at the first sign of pest activity.

    Key Notes: Follow local citrus-specific guidelines for PHI.

     

    7. Soybeans, Peas, Beans & Other Legumes

    Target Pests: Aphids, Leafhoppers, Thrips, Whiteflies.

    Method & Timing: Foliar spray. Apply when pests first appear.

    8. Onions & Alliums

    Target Pests: Aphids, Thrips.

    10. Ornamentals (Greenhouse, Nursery, Interiorscapes)

    Target Pests: Aphids, Whiteflies (including Greenhouse and Silverleaf), Thrips (including Western Flower Thrips), Mealybugs, Scale (Armored and Soft), Leafhoppers, Leafminers, Japanese Beetles, Lacebugs, Sawfly Larvae, and many others.

    Dinotefuran is particularly effective against whiteflies in greenhouse ornamentals, consistently achieving ≥90% efficacy.

    Cautions:

    PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval): typically 14 days for rice

    REI (Restricted Entry Interval): 12 hours.

    Maximum Applications: Do not apply more than 2-3 applications per season.
